Product Description John Piper challenges fellow baby boomers to forego the American dream of retirement and live out their golden years with a far greater purpose in mind. They say it-s a person-s reward for all those years of labor. -Turn in your time card and trade in your IRAs. Let travel plans and golf-course leisure lead the way.- But is retirement really the ideal? Or is it a series of poor options that ignore a greater purpose-and will kill a person more quickly than old age? John Piper responds: -Lord, spare me this curse!- And his resounding message is for anyone who believes there-s far more to the golden years than accumulating comforts. It-s for readers who long to finish better than they started, persevere for the right reasons (and without fear), experience true security, value what lies beyond their cravings, and live dangerously for the One who gave his life in his prime. With this brief book, Piper is sure to spur fellow baby boomers in their resolve to invest themselves in the sacrifices of love-and to grow old with godly zeal.

Too much for too little October 24, 2009 Barb (Boise, ID) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
This booklet is OK, but it is only a BOOKLET!! It is mostly anecdotes of Christians from long ago and really is not for practical advice.
NOT a book, this is a PAMPHLET August 19, 2009 A. Biggs (NH) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I don't think I've ever given a product one star before.
My husband and I were shocked when we found this pamphlet hidden among the shipping paperwork in the box. At first we thought it was some sort of complementary study guide for the book, because I've purchased many full-length novels for roughly this price. We're wishing we had read the reviews, because the issue was raised there, but we've been stressing over the retirement issue and the title looked so promising that we just clicked and ordered. We're not going to bother reading it; we've already done enough legwork on the subject that I'm sure this dinky little pamphlet won't offer us anything new. It's going back to Amazon.
I recommend that you save yourself the outrageous price by doing this: open your Bible to the concordance. Look up "wealth". Follow the references. Use your brain.
And whatever you do, don't waste your money on this "book"!
Disappointed June 9, 2009 Kenneth L. Rudy (Niwot, CO, USA) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I thought for the price, the book was small. It was actually just a booklet. Moreover, there was no groundbreaking information.
Rethink purchasing this small booklet for $5.99 June 1, 2009 Daniel C. Markel (Rosharon, TX USA) 9 out of 17 found this review helpful
I've purchased three John Piper books over the past year and for the most part enjoyed them very much. He's always biblically sound and doesn't use the health & wealth or feel-good ploys that many so-called Christian authors use (or actually abuse) today.
Sadly I felt almost victimized with this purchase when I found it buried among some other papers at the bottom of the Amazon shipping box. This tiny 27 page pocket-size booklet cost me $5.99 and it took all of 15 minutes to read. Our church sells similar size books for $1.00 each. If the topic interests you, your money will be much better spent purchasing Piper's "Don't Waste Your Life". He critiques the idea of "retirement" and makes a strong argument that there is really no biblical basis for a life of leisure the last 10 to 40 years of your life when it could be used to glorify God in countless ways. "Don't Waste Your Life" costs a few dollar more and is a full size 200 page book.
