Oxford Spanish Dictionary December 25, 2008 J. Carlson I love this dictionary! I use it all the time and would be lost without it. Yes, it is big, but....Oxford makes all sizes of this dictionary. I would difintly recommend this to everyone. It is well worth it!
El diccionario December 17, 2008 college girl (MA) Overall, I really like this dictionary. I bought it for use in an Advanced Spanish Composition course and it certainly has plenty of words in it. br / br /2 drawbacks: br /1. The definitions are not always quite clear. For example, los militares means the people in the military, not just the military in general as one might assume from the entry in the book. Subtle, but important when writing. wordreference.com tends to be a little more clear. br /2. It's huge! I tend to call it the blue beast. If you are looking for a dictionary to carry with you, don't get this one. If you are looking for a comprehensive desk dictionary, this one is for you. br / br /However, despite those 2 things, I highly recommend this dictionary.
Excellent dictionary if you need less common words November 4, 2008 Jean Master I use this dictionary for translating scientific articles from spanish to english. It has worked very well so far, some very technical words aren't there, but those aren't in an english only dictionary either. br /
CD provides instant word look-up as you read internet or other text October 11, 2008 Activoz Interpreting 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an outstanding dictionary. I have been using it, in one format or another, for many years. (I now have the Palm PDA version on my handheld - not as full of features as the CD Rom version, but just as complete, and super when I'm on the go). br / br /One outstanding feature is that the CD Rom version permits you to click on words in other text you are reading on the computer, and immediately see the translation of that term in the dictionary (see below). br / br /The CD Rom dictionary is very easy to install on your PC, does not need much memory or disk space, and is very easy to use. br / br /Some of the Best Features: br /* Type a word in English or Spanish and it appears in the definition pane immediately. br /* Click on a word in the definition pane, and THAT definition appears immediately. br /* Select the "advanced search" feature to type a phrase or partial phrase. You will see a list of all words in which that phrase appears somewhere in the definition. br /* Open the dictionary and turn on the "Watch Clipboard" option. As you read text in a Word document or in an internet document, if you double-click on a word in that document, the translation will pop up in the dictionary definition pane. This feature makes word lookup immediate - no more flipping through pages and losing your concentration. An excellent tool for language-learners (like me). br /* The "Realspeak" feature pronounces the Spanish words. (This is not available for English words) br /* Spanish verb tables are available with a click of the mouse. br / br /I highly recommend this dictionary, and especially the CD version, for professionals and learners alike.
Once You Get Accustomed, Using CD Rom Dictionaries is Easy and Efficient. October 7, 2008 Paul A. Ballard (Bethesda, MD, USA) I purchased this cd-rom dictionary to replace a very old Spanish dictionary - with no computer terms, no less !! I had never used a CD-rom dictionary before. The content are superior - including both South American and Spanish Spanish terms. Also, it includes many useful technical terms in a range of fields. You can quickly get used to the CD-rom approach to looking up words - and even phrases. Both into and from Spanish are easy. Also the nice thing is that associated words appear alongside. I am a longtime Spanish scholar and have been reading Spanish for over 40 years. This is the best dictionary I have had so far.
