Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
In the small village of Hawkins Hollow, three best friends who share the same birthday sneak off into the woods for a sleepover the evening before turning 10. But a night of pre-pubescent celebration turns into a night of horror as their blood brother oath unleashes a three-hundred year curse. PTwenty-one years later, Cal Hawkins and his friends have seen their town plagued by a week of unexplainable evil events two more times - every seven years. With the clock winding down on the third set of seven years, someone else has taken an interest in the town's folklore. Quinn is a well known scholar of local legends, and despite Cal's protests, insists on delving in the mystery. But when the first signs of evil appear months early, it's not only the town Cal tries to protect, but also his heart.

3 out of 5 stars Good plot, but flat characters...   December 26, 2008
N. A. LeBlanc (CT, USA)
I did read this book and have now moved on to read the second in the trilogy. Although this is outside Roberts' norm, it is a good plot if you don't mind demons and witchcraft. My problem with this story though is that the main characters, especially Quinn, fall flat. The authors attempt at building a credible character just comes out as annoying. To try and make her a believable person she gives her dieting issues and the predictable jokes, which are supposed to be funny, just drag the story down. I actually found myself hoping she would kill off the character lol. But despite this, I find the book as a whole is good and not a complete waste of time... but there are better options from Roberts many novels.

4 out of 5 stars scary, but....   December 10, 2008
starboxer (cochran, ga United States)
I will admit that I enjoyed this book thoroughly, and the boogieman really did scare me, but the whole concept of characters meeting and falling deeply in love in a matter of days does get old. Also, did anyone else note the similarities between this story and Stephen King's It? Remember? Scary sewer monster comes to town every 30 years to feed on the children, townspeople are oblivious to what's going on, 7 kids band together to battle creature, scare it away, have to reunite 30 years later, some fall in love....yada yada.

1 out of 5 stars A HUGE Nora Roberts fan totally disappointed...   November 30, 2008

I am Nora Roberts' biggest fan. Period. Bought everything I could get my hands on. Read and re-read all her greats many, many times. BUT...I couldn't even finish this one. After about 60 pages, I put it down. I was bored, a condition I thought I would never experience with a Nora Roberts' book. Found myself skimming pages. If she would get back to GREAT romance writing, like the "Born In" series (the best!) or the Quinn Brothers series...wow...wouldn't that would be awesome? If she wants to write this "dark" stuff, fine--get another pen name and do it. But don't disappoint those of us who love the GREAT romances she's written. I would NOT recommend this series.

4 out of 5 stars Review of Audio CD   November 29, 2008
Ponda (...in the car)
I listen to the audio books whenever I can, and read the books I can't get on audio. Let me preface my remarks by saying that I'm a huge fan of Nora Roberts' work; that said, there are certainly some books I enjoy more than others. Also, with audio books, another factor in the equation is the narrator. br /I agree with previous reviewers that the characters could have been fleshed out a little more fully. I enjoyed the story and the narrator had a good voice while reading the parts of the three men, but fell short when trying to do the women, especially trying to give Layla a New York accent. br /I do recommend this and enjoy the various types of stories (murder mysteries, romance, paranormal) that Nora Roberts can create.

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as the Circle Trilogy   November 23, 2008
Mercedes (Colorado, USA)
The first books I've ever read by Nora Roberts were the Circle Trilogy (Morrigan's Cross, Valley of Silence, Dance of the Gods). I was expecting this trilogy to be as good. This book takes place in Hawkins Hollow Maryland. In a nutshell it's about 3 best friends, born on the same day, same year, same time. They become blood brothers at the Pagan Stone and in the ritual they release something dark and evil. Every 7 years the evil takes over for a week and the townspeople basically go crazy. Enter 3 women who also have a connection to Hawkins Hollow and you have the beginnings of love relationships and fighting evil. br / br /All the characters are very likable, it's well written, but it just didn't hold my interest. I started to get really into the book towards the end. It's a mild page turner. The love between Cal and Quinn is expected from the start. Fox and Layla I'm sure before the end of the trilogy will be involved. I was disappointed it took so long in the book to bring Gage back. And it's seems obivious he and Cybil will be a couple before the end of the trilogy. br / br /As with Nora Roberts' Circle Trilogy the romance isn't overdone or too much. But the story line just isn't engaging enough to make it an exceptional book.
