A madman is shooting people in Somerset, North Carolina. FBI Special Agent Caitlin Cavanaugh is on the case. Ex- Navy SEAL- turned author -Quinn McKade has a special interest in the case. Not only did he share a hot steamy night with Cait many years ago, and he wants more, but he's a sniper too and he's got insight into the shooter's mind like few others have. Cait is reluctant to work with Quinn. She's still attracted to him, but she doesn't want to be. Quinn is working hard at breaking down the walls Cait has built around her. He's making more progress there than at finding the shooter. The madman has something big planned and if Cait and Quinn don't find him soon, they could very well be his next victims. br / br /Crossfire is a suspenseful, action- packed, and has a great- tension filled romance. The anticipation of when Cait and Quinn would get together again was almost as good as when they did. Sexual tension so good you can cut it with a knife and a twisted madman on the loose make Crossfire a story I couldn't put down. Ms. Ross' attention to detail and a cast of interesting characters keep the pages turning fast. The bartender and the reporter have a great story to tell as well in Crossfire. Now that I've got a taste of Ms. Ross' sexy SEALs I want more. I can't wait for Shane's story! br / br /Nannette br /Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

This book is better than Freefall, but there are still too many characters. I also thought that Cait and Quinn did not spend enough time together. They had a one night stand years ago which "neither of them could quit thinking about" but they hadn't seen each other since. Another thing that bothered me (unless I missed it) was how Quinn knew her parents. The whole plot seemed to wrap up neat and tidy in just a few pages. I skipped over the parts about other characters and only read the sections with Cait and Quinn. I never really understood the point of the Brandon backstory either. br / br /Overall it was entertaining, but I picked which parts I read. If you suffered through Freefall, then it is worth reading this one. Otherwise, skip it.

Unfortunately, I have had to put the book aside for the moment. I usually love Joann Ross, but I for some reason can't get into this book. I will give it some time and try again.

In Somersett, South Carolina, the sniper needed one shot to assassinate Brigadier General John Jacob. Because of the high visibility of an Army field grade officer murdered in the States, the FBI claims terrorist act means their jurisdiction. FBI agent Caitlin Cavanaugh leads the task force that includes state and local law enforcement. br / br /The team quickly concludes they are dealing with a serial killer whose accuracy denotes military precision of a trained sniper. Former Navy SEAL Quinn McKade is added to the investigative team because of his former military experience as a sniper. The killer sends messages to local TV reporter Valentine Snow that insists the list of victims has just begun. As Cait and her team struggle with the motive that would link the killer's targets, she and Quinn are attracted to one another; but first there is a deadly apparently military trained killer on the loose they have to catch. br / br /The latest High Risk romantic suspense is a terrific serial killer police procedural with the tie to FREEFALL being a harrowing incident during the Afghan War. Cait is excellent as a woman who prefers to be in charge while Quinn is used to going solo and not taking field orders. They make a fine coupling, but the strength of this superb thriller is the deep look at the sufferer of post-traumatic stress disorder and those emotionally connected to the disturbed person. br / br /Harriet Klausner br /
