Amazon.com Review From 30,000 years ago up to around 2,000 B.C., it was the great Goddess who succored the children of Earth. Today, in the face of rampant species annihilation and a degraded environment due to human overpopulation and greed, Her spirit seems to be bursting forth, recalling the naked two-leggeds to their appropriate place. In this passionate anthology, Muten collects the works of over 72 poets from Homer and Sappho to Bobby McFerrin and Jane Kenyon. Calling on Inanna, Isis, Eve, Demeter, and Kali, these powerful expressions reignite the fire of Goddess truth. As the tired millennium sets in the West and a fresh cosmology rises, a ringing of poetry sounds the resurgence of the Goddess. Hear her vivid presence in the voice of Diane Di Prima: "I am sacred mare grazing in meadow of your spirit you run in my wind.... I hurl the shafts of dawn like agony down the night." I--P. Randall Cohan/I
Product Description iHer Words /i celebrates the return of the Great Goddess to the hearts and minds of women (and men) during the late twentieth century. The 140 poems chosen for this anthology span the ages, from the hymns to the goddess Inanna through biblical verses about Sophia and the works of the sixth century poet Sappho to the poetry of twentieth-century authors: Janine Canan, Lucille Clifton, May Sarton, Diane di Prima, Susan Griffin, Patricia Monaghan, Starhawk, Alma Luz Villanueva, and many others. br br To amplify the cyclical, circular time inherent in women's spirituality, iHer Words /i intersperses the works of ancient and modern poets. This nonlinear arrangement highlights the powerful connections modern poets are making with ancient archetypes (Eve, Lilith, Demeter, Kali, and others), validating the natural seasons of women's lives as maidens, mothers, and crones.

Goddess Poetry February 19, 2007 L. Hiatt (Peyton, CO, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this book in the library and loved it. Had to have a copy of my own. For any follower of Goddess this is a beautiful book, every time I reread a poem from the collection, I find something new, and am moved and inspired again. She lives.
