Product Description
The shining metropolis of Seventh City is the birthplace of super powers. The First Wave heroes are jerks, but they have the best gifts: flight, super strength, telepathy, genius, fire. The Third Wavers are stuck with the leftovers: the ability to instantly make someone sober, the power to smell the past, the grace to carry a tray and never drop its contents, the power to produce high-powered excrement blasts, absolute control. over elevators. Bar owner Keepsie Branson is a Third Waver with a power that prevents anything in her possession from being stolen. Keepsie and her friends just aren't powerful enough to make a difference. at least that's what they've always been told. But when the villain Doodad slips Keepsie a mysterious metal sphere, the Third Wavers become caught in the middle of a battle between the egotistical heroes and the manipulative villains. As Seventh City begins to melt down, it's hard to tell the good guys from the bad, and even harder to tell who may become the true heroes.

5 out of 5 stars Must Read   December 2, 2008
J. L. Cartwright (San Francisco, CA United States)
the most creative, funny, down to earth super hero story. i couldn't put it down.

5 out of 5 stars A Deeper Meaning Beneath it All   December 2, 2008
James J. Melzer (Toronto, ON, Canada)
What I liked most about this book is that the characters were real and flawed. Keepsie and her pals are placed in a precarious position and we have to watch them work themselves out of it all the while wondering what we would do in the same situation. Give in to evil or let good prevail? It's a decision we've all been faced with in some form or another. br / br /Mur's effective prose helps move the story along at a nice pace, never leaving you bored but rather making you want to find out what happens next, even if it means lack of sleep to find out. br / br /I've never been one for the superhero genre yet I thoroughly enjoyed this one because it's not just about the heroes. Deep down it's about character and morality. Mur Lafferty does an excellent job at bringing something new to a genre that appears to have seen it all.

5 out of 5 stars Good story   November 13, 2008
P. M. Perez (Las Vegas, Nevada)
Like many here, I listened to the podiobook version of this-I didn't get to the end for some reason. I didn't realize that Mur got published! (I really slacked on listening to my podcasts.) I looked her name up on a whim knowing that independent authors sometimes publish their work on Kindle. I'm really happy for her. I love stories with colorful characters and twists on themes and this one delivers. I'm not a big super hero fan but I really do enjoy this story. Hopefully the publishers will pick up her Heaven series??? I'm gonna check her website right now!

5 out of 5 stars Playing For Keeps   November 2, 2008
Jeffery Doherty
I love Mur's work. Playing For Keeps is one of my favourite podiobooks. When I heard she had signed a book deal, I had to buy the book. She has even inspired my son to read it - That is praise indeend. Usually I have to stand behind him with a hammer to make him read. Thanks Mur. br / br /Jeffery E Doherty

5 out of 5 stars Just A Wonderful Book   October 26, 2008

I have to say that I enjoyed this book so much that I went back and bought more just to give it out as gifts for the holidays. Mur is a great writer.
