A Good Addition to Your Self-Help Library! September 18, 2008 Alain B. Burrese (Missoula, MT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like many people, I first learned of John Assaraf when I saw "The Secret." I enjoyed what he said and his enthusiasm for life. So I decided to check out his book "Having It All: Achieving Your Life's Goals and Dreams." I'm glad I did, it is a quick enjoyable read with some very practical advice. br / br /First, while it is a quick read, if you do the exercises Assaraf suggests you do, it will take longer. As with just about anything in life, the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. Assaraf includes numerous worksheets for you to think about your life and design a more successful life for yourself. He has you look at your accomplishments, strengths, weaknesses, etc. He also includes exercises to evaluate where you are currently at regarding health, spirituality, relationships, and so forth. Finally, he has worksheets that focus on designing your future, setting goals and so on. I do like that you can go to Assaraf's website and download the 37 pages of worksheets in a PDF file rather than write in the book or have to photocopy them. br / br /I have done many exercises like these and am a goal setter, so I did not stop and work on all of these worksheets. However, the way Assaraf presented the information was a bit different from the way others present similar ideas and he did give me a few extra things to think about as I constantly work toward improving myself and the life that I create. br / br /There are many others who teach some of the same things. Heck, I myself teach and write about some of these ideas, though I often come at it from an Asian perspective incorporating ancient warrior wisdom into my teachings. That does not mean this book is not worth a read. In fact, even if you have read other's works on these topics, I'd include Assaraf's book on your reading list. Reading his perspectives will reinforce the ideas and help you maintain your course. After all, it is easy to get motivated and then lose your way in the hectic turmoil that many of us have to face each day with our lives. Reading positive books and articles and listening to positive programs helps us stay on track and remember what's important. br / br /Bottom line, this is a fun quick read with some excellent advice on how to have it all. If you have never done exercises such as Assaraf recommends and provides worksheets for, I suggest you don't read it so quick and actually think about your life with Assaraf's guidance. If you have done this kind of work on your life, use this book as a boost and do even more. br / br /Reviewed by Alain Burrese, author of Hard-Won Wisdom From the School of Hard Knocks and the dvds: Hapkido Hoshinsul, Streetfighting Essentials, Hapkido Cane, the Lock On Joint Locking Essentials series and articles including a regular column on negotiation for The Montana Lawyer. Alain Also wrote a series of articles called Lessons From The Apprentice. br /

Having It All July 6, 2008 D. Fraser (Texas) I really have enjoyed the book Having It All by John Assaraf - He is encouraging and gives practical techniques/applications to help you reach your goals, dreams, and change your life. I especially appreciate his personal account of his younger days, and his not so high self esteem back then. He is living proof that your thoughts create things, your thoughts create your life. Sounds easy, you know - change your thoughts, change your life - yes, it's simple, but not always so easy - John gives great tips on how to...
A self-help book with REAL ideas May 29, 2008 Barbara Rhoades (O'Fallon, MO USA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
WOW, a self-help book that doesn't preach or sermonize but actually gives you practical and scientific information on how to achieve your goals and dreams. I didn't want to stop listening to Mr. Assaraf as he read his own work. Who better to read your work than the person who wrote it! br / br /He tells us how to achieve what we want by showing us where he came from and how he managed to "get there". He did not come from wealth or power. He was a "street kid" and did get into trouble. He begins by telling us about how he listened to the men who had the power and wealth and learning from them --- thus the scientific information --- if it works for them, it can work for me. br / br /He admits that he is divorced but has managed to stay friends with his ex-wife. He is remarried and happy and has two GREAT kids. All in all, he is just an average Joe that got what he wanted by working hard and like other self-help books, Mr. Assaraf tells you to use your mind but to also use the Power of Nature's Laws. br / br /What are they? Oh, you need to listen to the book to get that information. I wouldn't want to give everything away! br /
Tremendous Book May 29, 2008 Scott L. Vestal I read many books like this and there is no doubt that Mr. Assaraf "gets it." Very good and I highly recommend it.
