Peggy Hopper Art August 2, 2004 Audrey L. Gallant (Los Angeles, California) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was out to dinner one night 2 years ago and dicovered a print of a picture that closely resembled one my husband bought while in Hawaii in our favorite coffee house. We rushed home and just knew it had to be the same artist because it so distinctly captured all we felt was the essence of the Hawaiian People; their history, hope, gentleness and strength. We found Peggy Hopper to be the artist and during our journey discovered many more paintings this fabulous and talented artist has contributed to our lives. br /Audrey Love Gallant br /We have just returned from another trip to Oahu where Peggy has her gallery in ChinaTown. I had to visit it. What a special afternoon for us. Surrounding us was the beauty of the Islands beyond what we experienced by being there. I had purchased this book at a book store while there. I read the flap and understood more about the woman that has so completly understands beauty. Within this book I have been introduced to more than the Island women I was learning about. The large Chinese screens in her gallery, 1 is shown on page 60, are breath taking. I walked to the resturant to see them. WOW. There are more prints beyond what is in this book. This book is a major edition to my library. Peggy Hopper has more inside waiting for the world to enjoy and I hope she is seen by people that can see with the eye of appreciation and experience the tranquilty and passion she leaves on the canvas for all of us. Peggy Hopper uses her soul to communicate on canvas and I am forever grateful to a great artist to share her essence with me. br /I look forward to the next book with anticipation.
WONDERFUL! October 14, 2003 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Like Pegge, I am an Art Center College of Design graduate,1979. I studied fine art in Mexico, (University of the Americas, Pueblo), and dreamed of living in San Miguel de Allende, as Pegge did. Pegge's book is a treasure; one of the most beautiful art books I have ever seen. Her fine talent and impressive portfolio of awesome work is profound and to be admired. Pegge's paintings and illustrations are magical, mystical, and moving. Her gift for color (and composition) is especially remarkable. This volume is a powerful statement of authentically great artwork, and I highly recommend it. I love this book so much I am going to order it as a gift to my 81-year-old aunt: a very talented painter-illustrator-commercial artist who graduated from The Art Center College of Design in 1940-something! She will be so delighted! This book is brilliantly designed in every way... A must see to believe.
