Product Description
piThe laugh-out-loud answer to the guide that has terrified millions!/i/p pSo the pregnancy test is positive, and the only thing growing faster than your appetite for anything fried is your list of questions: How long until I have to pay through the nose for maternity wear? Is there anything I can do to prevent the scrapbooking instinct from kicking in? Relax. The advice in this book will be as easily digested as the now - forbidden caffeine you used to chug by the vat./p pSure, having your kidneys double as someone's couch sounds like kind of a downer, but that's just all the more reason why every pregnant woman needs this hysterical send-up. Mary K. Moore not only covers the 40 weeks of pregnancy but also tackles the stupor that is baby's first six months, including:/p ul liNaming baby: fruit or action verb?/li liBirth plans: your dreams, a doctor's comic relief/li liThe politics of choosing diapers: landfill landmines or inconvenient napkins?/li /ul pSpotlighting the absurdity of pregnancy and shaking the sugar-coating off symptoms - get ready for the breasts of a stripper and the bladder of a Shriner - bThe Unexpected When You're Expecting/b is a must-have for anyone with a uterus./p puPRAISE FOR THE UNEXPECTED WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING/u/p pi"The advice is useful. But most of all, this book is funny."/ibr bAustin-American Statesman/b/p pi"Hilarious! A witty, laugh-out-loud take on the classic. It's the perfect gift for every woman who has ever felt like throwing What To Expect When You're Expecting across the room (or at her husband). I love this book - it is exactly what a parody should be."/ibr b Risa Green, author of Notes from the Underbelly/b/p pi"The Unexpected When You're Expecting is smart, dry, and divinely anti-guidebook. Mary K. Moore's laugh-out-loud glimpse into pregnancy is the perfect gift for your gloriously hip friends who are currently sporting glamorously elastic waistbands."/ibr bAustin Kidbits Blog/b/p

5 out of 5 stars The Only Book That Will Get You Through Your Nine Months of Pregnancy   October 19, 2008
R. Melton
I thought it was hysterical. Anyone who takes this book literally probably thinks Stephen Colbert is a conservative jerk. It's supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. It's a parody after all. If you like your humor edgy and smart---like The Office, Daily Show etc--and you don't take parenthood too seriously, then you'll love it.

1 out of 5 stars If You Don't Mind Intolerance   October 15, 2008
S. Gomez (California)
If You Don't Mind Intolerance I can see how this book can be fun and funny. Otherwise, I found the sarcasm to be horribly overbearing and did not, in the least, find her sexist, racist, and stereotypical comments enjoyable. She suggests or outright states that men who compromise and have a couple's baby shower have no balls, those who opt to use cloth diapers (or cannot afford disposables) are "idiots", nannies who are not fully proficient in English are incompetent and laughable, and so on. Sorry, I just don't find stereotypes acceptable or humorous.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for all Moms   September 25, 2008
Fortheloveofzane
This book is hysterical. I love that the author actually put in writting many of the things I thought to myself while I was pregant. Thanks for the laughs, and your honesty! I'm going to give this book to every new Mom I know!

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious Take on Pregnancy Even Men Would (Secretly) Enjoy   September 25, 2008
Matt Rhodes (San Francisco, CA)
This book is brilliant and much needed, a knee-slapper that rightfully makes fun of a topic we often take way too seriously. br / br /Even a man would get a lot out of Moore's quick wit and delightfully crass straight talk. I read my girlfriend's copy and immediately recommended the book to several female friends. Maybe I even secretly bought a copy for myself... br / br /Kudos to Moore--a book that should be read by every pregnant woman and every man who secretly wants to impregnate a woman but is too cool to admit it. Her publisher should sell dust jackets of a manly variety so we can easily hide the guilty pleasure. br /

4 out of 5 stars Perfect Shower Gift   September 20, 2008
Sabine Bridge Communication
I'm always looking for one of those books you can read a line from and laugh while opening presents. The laughs come a little easier for me now that my girls are in their 20's and their friends are having showers. It's one thing to be a good writer. It's another thing to be funny. Mary is both. br / br /Cindy Gabriel
