4 out of 5 stars Book 1 in the The Seven Deadly Sins series   January 2, 2009

The Duke of Blackburn tells his 7 children that they are banish from Scotland and must move to England where they all must earn the respect the Sinclair names deserves or they can never come back to their home or enjoy the Sinclair money. The oldest, Marquess of Blackburn desides after meeting Miss Isobel Carington that he should place a bet at White's that he will marry Miss Isobel Carington and a make a money for his family. I like this author , her books are a light read that leave you with a smile. Looking forward to book 2 of the series, The Most Wicked of Sins due out August 2009. br / br /If you enjoy this genre I would also suggest; Three Nights of Sin , The Christmas Countess, The Rogue and the Rival and Compromised (Berkley Sensation). br / br /

4 out of 5 stars More like 3 1/2 stars   December 30, 2008

"To Sin with a Stranger" begins what sounds to be a promising series, about 7 brothers and sisters cast out of Scotland to make a name for themselves. Called the "Seven Deadly Sins," each sibling represents a particular vice. br / br /Sterling, the eldest, is supposed to be "Greed," but I really don't see it. He is concerned with money, but has the clear excuse that his family is completely broke. After meeting Isobel, he begins to change his ways (donating to her charity). But that change is only implied, there is not much to show that he was spendthrift in the past. br / br /All of the characters are likable, but I felt there was a lack of development on all sides. The story is set up so that there is supposed to be tension between the two main characters, but it just isn't there. They fall in love quickly and that's all there was to it. I guess I just expected a little more...oomph. br / br /All in all though the book is enjoyable. The characters are likable and the storyline is interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing where Caskie takes the rest of the characters.

3 out of 5 stars the idea for the series is great, the first book not that much   December 8, 2008

i was very excited about the idea of the 7 siblings and the 7 sins, but the first book was a bit disappointing. As other reviewers have said, the siblings are at the moment very indistinguishable, maybe it should have been just 4 siblings, equaling a sign (i.e. water, wind, fire, earth) instead. br /The first encounter during a boxing match filled me with anticipation, but unfortunately, the longer i read, the less i cared about the characters. I felt most of the obstacle facing the main characters were somewhat contrived, the fact that he was her secret benefactor did not go anywhere and there was no slow build up to their romance. The story with Elgin's marbles was somewhat boring too. br /On the other hand, the few pages of the next Sinclair at the end of the book made me curious to read Ivy's story. Hopefully the series will pick up. There are obviously some sins that are easier to portray like jealousy, pride or wrath.

5 out of 5 stars 4.5 Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies!   December 1, 2008

Sterling Sinclair and his younger brothers and sisters have been thrown out of their ancestral home by their father. It seems their father has decided to withhold their inheritances until each and every one of them can prove they have become responsible members of society. Not having the money to spend on society and all the rounds of parties and balls, the Sinclair family does their best to hide the truth about their lives. br / br /Holding the family together is hard, especially when they look to Sterling for guidance. With no other recourse, Sterling Sinclair has to earn his money with his fists. A strong prizefighter, Sterling is on a winning streak. If he can win just one more fight, he and his brothers and sisters will have enough money to finance the entire season. Sterling also hopes to find a bride with a large dowry. He sees a beautiful woman across the room watching him, but when he puts on the charm, she slaps him. First blood has been drawn in this game of love, and Sterling, the Marquess of Blackburn, does not plan on losing. br / br /Sterling and Isobel execute a perfect dance. Each doesn't want to give in to their feelings, but the harder they fight, the more they fall - in love that is. br / br /Kathryn Caskie just has a way about her when she writes a historical romance. Her writing makes me laugh out loud one minute and sigh in pleasure at the tenderness of her characters the next. TO SIN WITH A STRANGER is exactly what I hoped it would be and nothing like I expected. br / br /Sterling Sinclair is a man at the height of his societal career. Penniless during a time when being poor can make or break a person's reputation, Sterling does what he can to ensure that his family will not be a casualty of London society. I think he does a tremendous job at keeping his family together while trying his best not to fall in love with Isobel. br / br /Isobel Carington is the bane of Sterling's existence as well as his light in a room filled with darkness. Their first introduction to each other didn't go so well, and being the man that he is, Sterling loves to poke and prod Isobel. She doesn't want anything to do with him and that just makes Sterling all the more determined. br / br /Enticingly funny, innocently sensual, and emotionally gripping, TO SIN WITH A STRANGER is a must read! TO SIN WITH A STRANGER only whetted my appetite for more. I can't wait to see where this talented author goes with this series, and I look forward to each installment. br / br /***Natasha Smith for Romance Junkies*** br /

4 out of 5 stars Fun, Sparring Romance   November 28, 2008
R. Phillips (MS USA)
This was a pleasurable romance with a hero and heroine who struggle to overcome their personal trials while at the same time having their romance speculated upon by all in London because of a wager placed on that romance. br / br /This is a fast and easy read and there are some very touching moments in the story - I even teared up a little. The personal acknowledgments of love came too soon in the romance for my taste though - I like to see the romance actually develop a little first. Since this will obviously be a series of at least seven stories, I think it was important to develop the character traits of the siblings a little more as well - so the reader can distinguish between them and have a better idea of who they are as individuals - not just the "sin" attached to the name of each. That's a little too simplistic. br / br /Although I didn't feel I got to know the hero and heroine personally on a deeply emotional level, I could definitely feel the romance between the two. That was what made this an enjoyable read. I really wanted the two to come together and their troubles pained me as well. The hero and heroine are both likable and the hero is loyal and honorable. I will definitely give the next book in this series a try.
