 Good Book But Not Great! August 25, 2008

I am an avid Batman fans. I purchased The Art of Batman Begins and normally I also purchased this book. I like this book way better than The Art of Batman Begins. It has more behind the scenes look and the script which was absent in the AOBB. My complaints for this book: Not enough coverage on the designs on Two Face, which I wouldn't mind seeing more of. The part where they discuss the making of the Joker is good, but we've seen many of his in pre-release promo materials, so not much surprise there. Overall, I still find this book a good addition to Batman movies fans everywhere.

So since I've become Batman-obsessed, I decided to read through a "behind-the-scenes" book for the latest movie. If you liked "The Dark Knight" and maybe wanted to relive parts of the movie, then you're in luck. The majority of the script (think 98%) is here in this book, along with pictures and artwork. The pictures that accompany the script are tiny, which is kind of a bummer. There are several sets of artwork and drawings for the movie at the beginning of the book, but the majority of them are related to Batman's technology and cityscapes... when there are so many cool characters (The Joker, Two-Face), why would you devote such a small amount of space to them and so much to the Batpod? It almost felt like the author was avoiding spoilers... but in a book that includes the script, that seems a little pointless. The section of actual behind-the-scenes descriptions, interviews, and artwork is very cool, but it's just a small taste of what you have to imagine is a huge amount of work. I'm glad I read through the book, and I'll probably spend some more time looking at pictures and contemplating seeing the movie again, but otherwise I don't think this is worth buying. Check it out from your library! :P

I can't say enough good things about this book! Word for word performed by the actors in script form, storyboard graphics, and dozens of production photos from development to screen all on a glossy page stock! My only criticism is, that there are not enough behind the scenes info or photos of two main characters getting into make-up or at least showing the process to convey maybe the depth and complexity of these characters when performing on screen!!!!! In any event, this book is still a must have for any "DARK KNIGHT" fan.

The script is a fun and great read. I don't understand some of the criticism, we all knew that the script would take up most of the book, 180 pages of the 242-or so pages.
I bought this book simply for the script and I couldn't be happier, the art and behind the scene production designs just add to the high quality of this book.
I HIGHLY recommend.
