The Economist Magazine January 21, 2010 Accountant in NY (Albany, NY United States) The magazine is extraordinary. Well-written, researched in depth, international flaver avoids blind U.S.-centric views. This subscription service doesn't provide for renewals. You just receive another magazine on top of the first one.
Closest thing to an oracle January 1, 2010 bernie (Arlington, Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good magazine for hindsight. It shows how things come about in the word. There is just about as much information on politics and/or just the way key people think around the world, and the results of their decisions.
Instead of being just a hindsight magazine, this magazine is also capable of foresight, it was able to successfully predict the outcome of the German elections and what it means to US-German relationships. During the process of the4 election I could keep up due to the articles in "The Economist."
Many times there are items that are not directly related to the economy. They discuss such items as pre-Islamic Iran, to the demise of the Telephone Business due to VOIP.
Any one article is worth the price of the magazine. However this magazine is packed with articles and insights that you may or may not have thought of.
They also do not seem to be shy about giving opinions. It is fun to see how close their opinions and perditions come to fruition.
Christmas gift for college student December 26, 2009 teachermom (four corners area) My son who is an economics major loves this magazine. It really helps him relate to current events.

I love the Economist, but I wouldn't recommend ordering it from Amazon. You either won't get it or you'll get it one, two, perhaps even three, weeks late.
It will make you feel sophisticated, but The Economist is dripping with bias December 13, 2009 J. Coe 2 out of 16 found this review helpful
This review is more of a warning. You will probably very much enjoy The Economist as it will no doubt convince you that you are sophisticated. Do not fall for it! You are just reading a magazine about sophisticated people.
As it turns out, The Economist is plagued by the same thing plaguing journalism in general. Writers need to write a certain number of articles per year. Each article needs to include a certain number of words. Thus the truth is altered in order to have enough stories and to make each story fill enough space. If you passively read this magazine and many others you are letting yourself be hypnotized into believing a skewed version of reality. If you are reading this magazine with your guard up, retaining your skeptical/analytical mind, then why bother reading it at all?
Let your ego go. You can still feel sophisticated without reading what's really just a tabloid with big words.
Thank you for your time!
