Scintillating May 14, 2008 David Saemann 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This CD offers the rare opportunity to enjoy two of Arthur Fiedler's albums in their original format, rather than as hacked together in an anthology. The title tune of Jalousie was originally recorded by Fiedler in the 1930's and became the first classical disc to sell over a million copies. It is a vivid tune with a fine arrangement and superb playing. The rest of the Jalousie LP is given over to light classics that are not often heard, with the exception of Arthur Benjamin's Jamaican Rhumba, and which fully deserve resuscitation. The Stardust LP is an appealing mixture of popular standards in lush orchestrations along with two reflective works by Debussy, including Clair de Lune. Listening to these plush tracks, it is amazing to realize that they were released in the same year that Fiedler recorded his first Beatles tune, I Want to Hold Your Hand. So this CD is a snapshot of the Boston Pops at a time when they had fully evolved one style and were about to turn to another in the swinging '60's. I hope someone will rerelease Fiedler's album Tenderly, also from this period and just as worthy.
Excellent entertainment December 2, 2007 Bjoern Linn (Sweden) I was very happy to meet again this music that I enjoyed in my youth. Excellent quality.
JALOUSIE/ STAR DUST- Arthur Fiedler & The Boston Pops February 22, 2007 L. Dequesada (JAMAICA,, NY United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you're a classical music lover, you can't go wrong with this great combination of two nostalgic gems, originally recorded on Lp format by Arthur Fiedler, conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. "Jalousie" was definitely one of Fiedler's finest works. The album theme "Jalousie" or "Jealousie" based on a tango composed by Gade, is a work of art. I first heard Fiedler's version of this great music master piece watching the old "B.F.Goodrich" musical program on television back during the early 60's and I immediately realized Fiedler's Boston Pops version of this great classic was absolutely the very best I have ever heard. This great album is complemented by other gorgeous classics, like "Il Guarany", "Jamaican Rhumba" "Danze Piemontese" and others. The second album included on this CD "Stardust" is another recorded milestone by Fiedler, "Stardust", "Clair de Lune" and other beautiful classics will simply delight you. Maestro Arthur Fiedler will always be remembered by music fans as Mr.Boston Pops. Fortunately a portion of his musical works with the Pops have been re-issued for us to enjoy and reminisce. I very highly recommend it. Do not miss this one.
