| Customer Reviews: Melancholic Progressive Rock / Metal January 30, 2009 Musical Warfare (Seattle, WA, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Klimt 1918's style on this album is a sort of indie/progressive rock with some metal elements mixed in. They use double-bass drums in certain places and there are definitely some songs and parts of other songs where things get pretty heavy. They also have a definite European flavor to some of their riffs, perhaps in the harmonies they use. What I've noticed about Klimt 1918's music is that certain tracks are almost instantly catchy and accessible, while other tracks on the same album can take several more listens to get into. To me this is a credit to the band's songwriting skills and their ability to create songs of varying texture and complexity with equal success.
I got into this band because I kept hearing comparisons to Katatonia which got me interested. And while musically, "Undressed Momento" might have some things in common with Katatonia, it's really the feel of the music that justifies the comparison. There is a definite melancholic tone that permeates the whole album, and this coupled with the heavier sections of the album should please fans of Katatonia or other heavy music. Because the album has so much variation, I think that fans from other genres who don't mind the music being a little dark or depressive in places should be able to enjoy this as well.
