More great Levon March 5, 2010 R. Appleton (Massachusetts) Wonderful stuff. One of the great voices in American music continues to amaze. From the country beauty of "White Dove" and "When I Go Away" to the rollicking "Kingfish" (when did you last hear a song about Huey Long?) the album shifts gears effortlessly. Great band and vocal backup too.
In the tradition of The Band with a southern feel February 14, 2010 Pete (Chapel Hill, Queensland) I haven't found any desert island tracks as yet but Levon's album is true to his roots with classy accompanying musicians and a feel good sound.
Nice Folk Album February 11, 2010 Matthew P. Szafir (Vermont USA) I'm not big into music but I enjoy this entire album and think it was worth the buy.
vintage levon February 5, 2010 Thomas G. Boerger (texas) Have to admit, was pleasantly surprised by this album. So many years since The Band days, and Levon has still got it. His voice seems more "raspy", but if anything it improves the quality of the songs. Good material, kind of a gospel feel on some of the songs. Especially liked "Golden Bird"; what a haunting song.
If its been awhile since you've heard anything from Levon and if you like good music would definitely recommend giving this a tumble; good music is still being made.
Brilliant, inspired music January 12, 2010 Curt Johnson (Boston, MA) Quite simply, this is the best new CD I have heard in a long, long time. The song selection is varied and inpsired. Only one was familiar to me before, but after a few listenings they all felt like old friends. The arrangements, while all recognizably by Levon Helm, are each sensitively geared to bring out the essence of that song. This is American popular music at its best.
