Suberb August 15, 2008 Yoo Mi Kwon (Brazil) When the book arrived I must say I was really amazed with the quality of the good. Firstly, The book format is bigger than I imagined and the number of pages and quality of the print are awesome! No issues at all at this part. br /And as for the content, is really inspirational. all the landscapes, concepts, designs and so many other things really show how detailed was the entire production of the movie. br /The only thing I was missing were the images that appear at the ending credits from the movie. But that only shows the uncountable material to be featured in the book. Thumbs up for the whole crew. br /PLUS, u can get a little poster from the movie :)
SWEET! August 7, 2008 Bookworm I'm pretty picky when it comes to art books, especially when the art style isn't what I'm looking for. This book, however, has various styles that I actually enjoyed, and it isn't even in a style I'm particularly fond of either! What makes it so interesting, you ask? Well, for one, you get to see and understand why the producers chose the particular art style for the movie, and it makes a lot of sense. br / br /If you've seen the movie already, you know how the intro movie goes (all in 2D at first), the author explains why they chose to go with that style and how they came up with the idea. br / br /From 2D sketches from various character designers to the final 3D output of the characaters and environments, you won't be disappointed at how they all turned out. Most of them didn't make in the movie, but you eventually find out why. Some of the art is so good, you won't even be able to tell if it's 2D or 3D. Vibrant colors fill up the pages in this book, and the overall design for the cover inside and out will make you want to come back to this book, even if it's just for fun or for your personal reference to character/environment design. PICK THIS ONE UP!
Shooting Darts of Awesome-ness and More August 7, 2008 Parka (Singapore) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
a href="http://www.amazon.com/review/R1W7XIU4J53SIK"Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1W7XIU4J53SIK/a This book shot darts of awesome-ness into my eyes! (Man, that was cheesy.) br / br /It also screamed "character design" after you flip through the pages. Nicolas Marlet designed all these beautiful characters in the world of Kung Fu Panda. Pages after pages were devoted to character design. br / br /Each major character had their own chapters and comes with an interesting background story, explaining how the characters came from research, went into concept, and then designed. br / br /Every prop and design had a purpose and meant something relating to Chinese history. The artists understand body language very well, and they show it by posing the characters to reflect that knowledge. br / br /Large frames were printed throughout the pages, depicting movie scenes. The level of detail was very high if you look at the drawings done on the set. Even the title typography of the book was designed to mimic Chinese words. br / br /This book is worth getting even if you haven't watched Kung Fu Panda. It's inspiring for anyone who loves art, or work with art. br / br /There are more pictures on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for my blog's link.
Lush collection of beautiful artwork August 1, 2008 Stephen Rustad (Petaluma, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a rule "Art of (fill in the movie title)" books routinely published in connection with the release of animated films are a grand way to continue enjoying the movie after the credits roll and the theater lights come back on. Typically, they include lots of theme or story development sketches, iterations of the characters as they evolved, gorgeous background paintings, and related pieces of art that inspired the creators. Given that I consider Dreamworks animation the "B" team to Pixar, I was surprised by the quality of Kung Fu Panda, the movie. This book reenforces my appreciation for the artistry and imagination that went into the project.
Amazing from paper to pixels to the big screen. July 17, 2008 Jack Chang 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After seeing the movie I just knew I had to get the "Art of" book. Amazing. 5 stars easy.
