Workshops on how to obtain financial aid for college will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 18 at the Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road; and Thurs., Oct. 23 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road.

Syracuse University student Raicine Terry has a problem with the current federal student aid program. "My parents don't make that much money," said Terry, a junior psychology major. The University increased its financial aid budget 21 percent for this fiscal year, though that may fall slightly short of the actual costs of providing aid. The financial aid budget for this year is now $69 million - up from $56.9 million last year, said Susan Howitt, associate vice president for budget and planning.
