I have a very strong dislike for private student loan companies. I'm no expert, but a large amount of government control over loans comes across as quite socialist in my mind.

While more than 40 percent of all undergraduate students attend a community college, 25 percent of all community colleges in the United States do not offer the federal student loans that could help those undergraduates pay for their college costs, according to a new report by the Project on Student Debt.

Student debt can come from taking out large loans or even credit card spending during the academic year. When a student takes out a loan for college they are usually making a choice of what expenses to cover. Carole Stanmore, associate director of Student Financial Services, said a big contributor to student debt is taking out more than they need.
